The Chargers' relentless offense, led by quarterback Justin Herbert, capitalized on the Raiders' weaknesses, while the defense kept Las Vegas at bay, marking a stark contrast to the Raiders' last season's struggles.
"Every snap, every play, we executed with precision," Herbert said postgame. "Our focus was unmatched today, and it showed in the result."
The Raiders, seeking redemption after a disappointing 6-11 finish last season, were unable to contain the Chargers, who had a point to prove after their near-miss at the AFC Championship last year.
Los Angeles took an early lead with a 49-yard field goal by Brandon McManus. The Raiders answered back with a field goal of their own, but that was the closest they came as the Chargers exploded with 17 points in the second quarter, including a stunning 32-yard touchdown pass from Herbert to Joshua Palmer.
"We've got to look at the tape and make adjustments. Today, the Chargers outplayed us," said the Raiders' interim coach, reflecting on the loss.
Injuries
In a concerning development for the Raiders, star linebacker Maxx Crosby suffered a pulled groin late in the second quarter and did not return to the game. His status is uncertain heading into Week 2.
